    Mount Buller is located in the Shire of Mansfield. It is part of Victorian Alps in the Great Dividing Range of Victoria. Victoria is the smallest mainland state of Australia. Mt. Buller is full of unique wildlife that includes wallabies, echidnas and wombats are very common to be seen.

    According to the 2021 Census data, the Mount Buller has a population of 333 people. The gender distribution was nearly equal, with males 49.7% and females 50.3%, the median age of the residents of Mount Buller was 27.

    Who named Mount Buller?

    The mountain was named by Scottish explorer and surveyor Major Sir Thomas Livingstone Mitchell, who chose the name in honor of his acquaintance, Charles Buller, from the Colonial Office. The local Indigenous Taungurong name for the mountain is Warrinebut.

    The Taugurung people are the traditional owners and occupants of Mount Buller. They have lived off the land for more than 2,000 generations.

    Mount Buller is about 200 Kms northeast of Melbourne CBD. It is roughly a 3 hours and 30 minutes’ drive from Melbourne. During the snow season, coaches are available from Melbourne for those who prefer not to drive.

    It is ranked as one of the highest mountains in Victoria. It is part of Great Dividing Range which is a significant mountain range stretches along the eastern coast of Australia. Mount Buller features a steep gradient and has an elevation of 1,805 meters which makes an ideal location for skiing and snowboarding during the winter season.

    Mount Buller not just has a cool location, but it also has a cool, alpine climate with cold, snowy winter season and mild summer. It experiences heavy snowfall throughout the winter season. On an average, Mount Buller receives nearly 68 days of snow in a year, which is the highest in mainland Australia. The highest average temperatures occur in January reaching around 17.2°C, whereas the coldest month is July with an average temperature of 3.0°C.
